Tabby's Star Is Acting Up Again

It seems that Tabby's Star is showing further mysterious changes in its brightness. There's still no clear explanation for these changes, which don't follow the regular patterns one would expect if a planet or family of planets were transiting it. But there is a new hypothesis -- a few thousand years ago, it swallowed up one of its planets, and the additional matter has disrupted its internal functioning such that it brightens and dims in unpredictable ways.

Given that we have never actually been able to observe a planet falling into its parent star, we really have no clear idea of what the consequences would be. So until further data comes in, it's another interesting possibility among many.
